29 July The bellhangers have gone and everything is now more or less complete. We are still waiting for ropes and we need to fit the simulator and set up the CCTV, clean the belfry and sort out the ringing room. Oh and we need some ringers!! If you would like to learn to ring please use the contact form on this website. The Dedication Service for the bells is Sunday 4 October at 6pm. Everyone welcome.
29 June Class 3 from Bardwell Primary School came to the church this afternoon to find out all about bells and their history. They had a go on handbells, got to grips with some old clappers and bellropes and found out about some of the people who rang bells here in the past. This activity was organised as part of our commitment to widening opportunities for people of all ages to find out about our heritage. Meanwhile there are no bellhangers on site this week while we wait for delivery of the new treble. Work still continues though to clear up as much as possible and to reconstruct the old fittings in the old frame which now has a new gangway constructed over part of it to allow safe access to the roof ladder and to view the old frame. Electrical work is still being completed and we should take delivery this week of the simulator. The clock will be returned with new electric autowind and fully refurbished in the next few weeks. 11 June Work is well underway with the new clock floor now constructed, the old third hung in the old belfry as clock bell and the five old bells in their pits in the new steel frame. The clock was collected today and next week the fittings for the bells should arrive. Slight delay with the new bells - we await news from HMA when they will be delivered..... 22 May Visit from Richard Spring MP today with photographers and journalists from both the Bury Free Press and East Anglian. Four children from the Primary School also came to have a look at the old bells which arrived yesterday and are sitting on the vestry floor. Laura and David Ruffles (great great grand daughter and great grandson) also came to see Hector's bell and it was fantastic to discover that today was the 75th anniversary of Hector Ruffles' death. (The of 4th is dedicated to hector Ruffles, former Tower Captain and ringer at Bardwell for 34 years). 12 May Bell hanger Andy Mills arrived on Monday to start hacking holes in the tower walls for the new frame and clock floor. On Wednesday the frame arrived looking like a giant meccano set. All seems to be going well, with no hitches so far and plenty of volunteers on hand to help.we hope that the old six and three new bells will return next week! 20 February The bells are out at Bardwell! We rang a farewell quarter peal on 23 January, some of which was recorded to preserve the unique sound of this unusual six, plus took a bit of video footage. 23 December Ixworth bells are now restored and augmented and practices have resumed there every Tuesday night, starting at about 7.15pm. Service ringing at Bardwell took place for the Christingle service and service ringing will continue at Euston as well as at Ixworth. So that's another church ringing on a Sunday in this Team! 6 September Regular Monday night practices resume after the summer holidays. This summer some of our new ringers have rung for weddings at Woolpit, Elveden and Euston. 18 July Tom is ringing for his first wedding on 16 July at Woolpit. Good luck Tom! 23 June Regular ringing now taking place at Woolpit on a Monday evening 7.30 - 9pm and Sunday ringing at Euston 10.30 am - 11am (not 5th Sunday). 12 May First practice at Woolpit. 28 April Another good practice, preceded by an excellent quarter of Double Oxford & Thelwall spliced and Childwall & St Clements spliced. We have decided to team up with Woolpit practices for future Monday practices because there are too many difficulties with Euston. So from now on - weekly practices at Woolpit, 7.30pm. 14 April Excellent practice tonight, though the quarter peal attempt of spliced Thelwall/Double Oxford and Childwall/St Clements didn't go. Next attempt is 28 April, before the practice. It is good to have some new ringers from Rickinghall coming along. 10 April Service ringing is now happening every week at Euston, except 5th Sundays where services are held elsewhere in the Team. Meet at 10.30 am for 11 am service. Jan Tomlinson is the Co-ordinator. If you want to contact her and don't have her number, use the 'Contact Church Bells' page. 31 March. Our quarter peal tonight was a successful one of Thelwall Bob Minor, which we rang for the 90th Anniversary of the RAF, at the suggestion of Bryn. The practice was also successful, with Tom and Yvonne ringing a plain course of Grandsire on the treble and 2, Simon ringing rounds and everyone else doing well on call changes. 23 March Not much practice in March because of Easter. |
