Location: Quaker Lane

Description: Built of clay lump, faced in the 18th century with Suffolk red brick.

History
Sunnyside Cottages were originally the barns for The Old Farmhouse, they were converted into four cottages and then into two cottages.

The Police Station
Very little is known about these cottages but on maps dated 1884 and 1890 the Police Station is sited here. There is no record of a resident policeman and the only reference to any local police activity occurs in the Bury and Norwich Post for May 22nd 1866, when a report is made from Ixworth Petty Sessions regarding an offence against a beerhouse licence at Bardwell. William Boreham held a licence for selling beer not to be drunk on the premises, and had contravened this. The arresting officer was Michael Death, who said: "I am a police constable and on the 12th inst was on duty in Bardwell at 10 0'clock and visited Boreham's house."
Michael Death cannot be traced on the census as a police officer, and there is an implication in his statement that he is not permanently employed in Bardwell. He may have been based in Ixworth where the Magistrates Court or Petty Sesssions were held. Searches of various directories have failed to throw any light on this matter.
