Strollers 13th August 2008 Our new group of strollers met at the Tithe Barn and near the Church, before driving to Ixworth for our stroll.Again, we had a good turn out, with 13 people willing to risk the impending rain. We parked at Ixworth Village Hall, then set off up the High Street turning left at the Post Office, strolling along Commister Lane until we reached the Footpath which took us past Ixworth Abbey, through an avenue of trees, towards the River.Stopping at Hempyard Bridge over the River Black Bourn. One of our strollers said this would be a good area for him to watch for Bats, so he will be returning to this spot one evening. For a short while we stopped by the hedges and sheltered from a quick cloud burst, which soon past over.We continued along a field track towards the small wood ahead. Then we went into the wood and walked for a short while, before turning back into the field for our return stroll back to Ixworth. We were lucky with the weather and our group actually sat in the back garden at Ixworth High Street Cafe, where we had refreshments and a chat.“Spoke too soon”! We had just about finished in the Cafe` when the rain decided to really bucket down, hence we all had to make a dash to our cars, hardly having a chance to say goodbye to our fellow strollers. But, I hope everyone had a good time and will join us again on 17th September, (usual meeting times), where our local walk will end by a Community Tea at the Tithe Barn. FUTURE “STROLLERS” WEDNESDAY WALKS 2008 – Please see the main page for dates to put in your diary. Please Note: Change in Times for November & December 2008: Newsflash from “Batman”! - a Fellow “Stroller”.........I have just been for a Community lunch, held at the Tithe Barn, and very nice it was too. Extremely good value, good company and the Apple pie was delicious. I will certainly be going to the Community Tea, after our next village stroll on Wednesday 17th September. But, I hear you ask, what has that got to do with “Batman”? Well, Bryn Lewis, who was also at the Community Lunch and is a fellow Bardwell “Stroller”, mentioned to me that he had returned to the River Black Bourn one evening, after our recent stroll around Ixworth, armed with his Bat Echo Locator, where he had a fantastic reading of Daubenton Bats. So anyone who is interested in Bats, should visit that local spot. Entry by Val Booth. |
