June 2009: Strollers
“Congratulations”, in May 2009 Bardwell Strollers reached their First Anniversary.  Although these short walks have mainly been enjoyed by a “Break-away group of Bardwell R(A)mblers”, with only a few new strollers, it is obvious those people who join the short walks enjoy the social aspect as well as keeping fit.
13th May – Our group of strollers walked to Wyken Hall and back!
We enjoyed Tea and refreshments at the Leaping Hare Restaurant, before heading home.

Whilst taking Tea, a question was raised as to whether you should pour milk to the cup first or after the tea. Many suggestions were discussed as to the correct way or not.  I have just read an article in the May Telegraph Magazine, Food & Home Section, which relates to that same question.  The article states as follows:-   “In the 18th century it is thought that aristocrats would pour the milk first, perhaps so as not to stain or crack their fine china.  By the early 20th century this social habit had reversed: - putting your milk in first had come to be seen as an irredeemably middle-class affliction.  To some it would seem that putting the milk in first defines one as being, non-upper class”.   So, it’s up to you!
Personally, as long as I get a good hot cup of tea at the end of each Stroll, (preferably with a biscuit to dunk), I don’t mind whether the milk goes in first or last!   How about you?

The months are flying by.  Take care not to miss the Summer!

3rd June  -  We enjoyed a Morning stroll around Bardwell, viewing two local gardens.  The first garden viewed was a Herb garden, with several different varieties of herbs.  Our Host, with her vast knowledge of the beneficial  uses of the herbs, explained to us what we could use for digestive problems, sore throats, flu, depression and bruises, to mention just a few.  Our thanks go to Pat for a very interesting tour of her herb garden.  Next we stopped off at “Trezelles”, in Quaker Lane, and whilst the group walked around the garden, Val put the kettle on for a cup of tea/coffee.  At mid-day we all headed off to the Tithe Barn where we enjoyed a Community Lunch.

Don’t forget, the Strollers group was set up for people who like shorter walks, with no stiles or ditches to manoeuvre.  Why don’t you make a note of the future dates for our strolls, and join us?     Everyone is welcome.
