BARDWELL STROLLERS “What a fantastic day for our November stroll”. Sunny, a fresh breeze blowing and a lovely blue sky. We could not have wished for a better day for our walk from Troston to Livermere Lake. Nine Strollers set off, walking through the entrance by the Gatehouse, along a track. We passed a sign directing us to Fresh Vegetables on sale, and although we did not investigate further, but kept on walking, we did spot a deer crossing the pathway. As we came to the bridge connecting the lake and a further large expanse of water, we stopped whilst Dave passed around his binoculars for us to view thousands of ducks, mostly mallard. Continuing on, we passed fields full of Greylag Geese. Something disturbed a flock of birds and we watched a spectacular flight pattern emerge from lapwing and starlings. They looked so graceful, all we needed was an orchestra! We turned left across a field following the footpath marker, and were pleasantly surprised that it was not quite as muddy as we had expected! On reaching Livermere Lake, we walked along a bridge to the middle of the Lake, where we stopped and admired Ampton House and the views. (I have discovered the lake is called Broad Waters). Deciding the bridge might not take the strain of our collective weight, we turned around for the walk back to our cars. We then headed back to the Tithe Barn for the Community Lunch, where we were treated to a taste of Italy, Sorrento Sausage casserole, followed by a favourite English dish, Apple Pie and Custard. “Delicious”.
