Welcome to a new school term. Despite large amounts of snow, school has got off to a great start with lots of exciting learning taking place in all three classes. New approach to the curriculum Our Creative Curriculum topic of Snow and Ice has proved to be very relevant and the children have had a great time making snow sculptures, looking at large pieces of ice and frost patterns with magnifying glasses and taking temperatures readings here and comparing them with those in the Arctic. If you would like to find out more about our new approach to the curriculum please do come along to our evening for parents on Wednesday 20th January at 7p.m. The meeting will only last an hour and will provide an opportunity for you to meet with staff, ask questions and decide if you have any skills or first hand experiences that you can offer in the classrooms. We hope to see lots of you there. Remember that you can also keep up to date with school events by looking at our website www.School-portal.co.uk Go onto this site and then click on Bardwell School. Christingle Service at Bardwell ChurchPlease do come along to this family service at Bardwell Church at 4p.m. on Sunday 17th January. Dinkie Williamson and other church representatives have come into school this week and every child in years 2, 3 and 4 has had a go at making Christingles ready for the service. The Selfish GiantStaff and pupils are excited about our forthcoming whole school performance. We will be performing ‘The Selfish Giant’ at the Tithe Barn in Bardwell on the following dates ;- School ClosuresWe apologise for any inconvenience caused during recent school closures due to snow and thank you for your patience and understanding. In Good Voice !We are very excited to have been chosen as one of the local schools to take part in the Sing Up project this term. All the pupils in Dragonflies Class will have an hour of singing tuition once a week provided by James Thomas, teacher to the choristers at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. They will learn a variety of songs and the lessons will involve use of a keyboard and the interactive whiteboard. A whole term of work will culminate in a concert at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, to which parents will be invited. We are very excited about this opportunity to be part of a large choir. Collective WorshipStaff and governors have decided to use a new scheme of ideas for school assemblies. Widely used in church schools, Values for Life, looks at 18 different values and how they relate to everyday life. There are lots of hands on ideas and exciting stories with links to work in the classrooms. Parent HelpersWe would really like more parent helpers in school, particularly in Dragonflies Class. Do let Mrs Trench know if you are interested. We have had a number of parents express an interest but who have yet to come in. We’d love your help. Come and talk to us again. Many thanks. RecyclingWe currently recycle computer cartridges and mobile phones. We also collect Morrisons Vouchers, Sainsbury Vouchers, Tesco Vouchers, Nestle Box Top Vouchers, Flora Vouchers and Times Book Token Vouchers. Thank you for supporting all these schemes. |
