Our glossary of terms
If there are any others that need explaining please tell us about them here and we’ll be happy to help.
Public Service – Providing informational content to the public via the BardwellVillage.info publicly available web site.
Publisher Service – Providing Publishing Organisations with the ability to make their informational content available on the Public Service.
Publishing Organisation – Any individual or organisation who wishes to publish informational content on the Public Service.
Content – Any information published or planned to be published on the Public Service.
Inbound Link – A link pointing at content available on the Public Service. These are very significant for search engine rankings.
Outbound Link – A link displayed within content available on the Public Service pointing to any content on a site other than the Public Service. These are also significant for search engine rankings but to a much lesser extent than Inbound Links are.
Internal Link – A link displayed within content available on the Public Service pointing to any other content available on the Public Service. These are also significant for search engine rankings but to a lesser extent than Oubound Links are.
Sorry, we might have to amend them
We’re sure you’ll agree that it’s near impossible to write a set of terms and conditions that will never need to be altered. It’s important that we tell you that we’re reserving the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time without notice, though of course we will endeavour to inform all Publisher Organisations of any significant changes likely to affect them. Consequently;
1.1. You agree that we may amend our terms and conditions at any time without notice.
1.2. You agree that it is your responsibility to ensure that your use of the BardwellVillage.info service is in compliance with these terms and conditions as published here. This is important because referencing any other copy may be out of date.
An introduction, some aims and objectives and associated agreements
The aim of BardwellVillage.info is to provide a high quality information service to the Bardwell village local community and others interested in this community wherever they may be from. Sure, we want to promote the lovely village of Bardwell to the wider world, but we also want the members of the communities in, and around Bardwell to be able to communicate more effectively with each other via the service.
We want to do this for free (almost). We have managed to assemble a small team of committed and well qualified individuals who work on the project for the love of working with the local community. Without these people a project like this simply wouldn’t be possible and we’d like to hear from you if you are able to help in any way with BardwellVillage.info. We’re keen on co-creation so if there’s an area you think we can add or addition to something already published, whether your assistance can be temporary or for the longer term please do get in touch. Unfortunately, some of the services we need don’t come for free though and so we charge small fees to Publishing Organisations to cover a few of our technical overheads.
In order to promote Bardwell village and all organisations within it, BardwellVillage.info seeks to allow Publisher Organisations to present a unified and professional appearance to the users of the service. So this service requires the maintenance of a clear, coherent and consistent presentation of information across all the content published on BardwellVillage.info. We don’t want to stifle your creativity but aim to provide you with the opportunity to publish material and discuss possible design avenues with us. We do this because experience shows us that most of the value associated with web sites is not in their aesthetic appeal but the usefulness or interestingness of their content. We aim to allow publishers to focus on these aspects and save them from becoming distracted by the design elements and gimmicks that too many amateur web sites become obsessed with and consequently fail to ever have any regular users.
To be friendly to all users of the service, we also need to ensure certain other standards are followed and this will in turn ensure the best results for the service as a whole. These considerations include how findable we are, so in the internet world this means how close BardwellVillage.info is to the top of the search results on search engine services such as Google (opens in a new window). They also include how accessible the service is to users of the service who experience some degree of disability or lack of computer performance.
If you are a Publisher Organisation:
1.3. You agree to the terms set out in our disclaimer available on every page of the BardwellVillage.info Public Service and that this applies.
1.4. You understand that we may temporarily revoke your publishing rights at any time without prior warning but we will inform you to let you know this is in progress. Rights will be suspended whilst we decide the seriousness of the incident and whether you may continue to publish on the Publishing Service. Our decision on this is final.
1.5. You agree to follow the BardwellVillage.info Content Production Guidelines to ensure the service achieves the aims set out above.
1.6. In the event that you want to publish some content that appears not to be covered by the Content Production Guidelines, you agree to seek guidance from the BardwellVillage.info web team before proceeding to publish it.
1.7. You agree that any content you produce may be edited, removed or restyled by our editors and designers in accordance with achieving the aims of consistency, style, visibility on search engines etc, or any of the other terms and conditions. We will inform you of any changes made and the reasoning behind them.
1.8. You agree not to publish any offensive or defamatory material.
1.9. You agree that 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8 also refers to other sites that your content links to so you are responsible for ensuring the compliance of any Outbound Links you make with these terms.
1.10. You agree that you will not display any form of advertising or Outbound Links to other commercial web sites within your content without our express written (not email) permission. You also understand that any agreement we make to allow you to include any of your own advertising may incur a charge as it may constitute advertising on BardwellVillage.info.
1.11. You agree to the terms of, and to promptly pay the appropriate small fees due to BardwellVillage.info for either; the provision of the Publisher Service to you, or the publishing of your listing in the Bardwell Directory by the BardwellVillage.info web team. If fees owed are not paid promptly within the agreed 30 days terms, you agree that we may unpublish your content until your fees are paid in full.
1.12. You agree that we can make no guarantees of service to you but that we will address each matter reported to us or enquiry made in the order that they arrive. Matters deemed to be of a particularly high priority may be addressed first and you agree that this will be determined entirely at our discretion.
1.13. We agree to support you in a reasonable and fair manner with constant consideration to the best interests of the Public Service as a whole.
1.14. You agree that you will arrange that where you have placed an Outbound Link to another web site of yours within your content on BardwellVillage.info, that you will arrange an Inbound Link to BardwellVillage.info from your web site.
1.15. You agree that 1.14 will be enacted at no charge to BardwellVillage.info. This is because your site gains from the many individual Inbound Links arranged via this mechanism via our Outbound Link to you, whereas BardwellVillage.info will only benefit from one Inbound Link from your web site.
1.16. You agree that any Inbound Links arranged via 1.14 and 1.15 are produced in consultation with the BardwellVillage.info web team. This is necessary to ensure the Public Service and all Publishing Organisations benefit from the impact on the search engine results of well-crafted links. The web team may advise on the positioning of the Inbound Link on your site, modifications to the content that surrounds it, the text that is linkable and the address that it links to. These are all contextual factors that search engines take account of when determining the meaning and relevance of any link.
1.17. You agree that the BardwellVillage.info web team may request changes to the details of Inbound Links arranged via 1.15 and 1.16 at any time but we will always try to keep these to a minimum.
1.18. You agree that you have 2 working weeks to make any initial corrections that may be required to your listing on Bardwell Directory after it is first published. You agree that after this period has elapsed, you may only make changes to your listing once during the course of any single year.
1.19. You agree that BardwellVillage.info may arrange advertising relevant to your content to be displayed alongside your published content. Our policy is to keep advertising to a minimum and to make any advertising as unobtrusive as possible so that users are not distracted from your content. You may request that we remove the advertising from the pages of your content on the BardwellVillage.info Public Service but you agree that your small fees may be increased in recompense for the potential loss in advertising revenues incurred by BardwellVillage.info.
1.20. You agree that any email you send from any email account we provide you with does not purport to be from our organisation and breach of this term will result in termination of your email service entirely at our discretion.
1.21. We want you to consult with us about design matters but you agree that the design of the web site is entirely at our discretion and we make no guarantee to implement any of your suggestions or changes.
1.22. You agree not to put any links or other efforts to achieve electronic commerce without prior consent from the BardwellVillage.info web team. |
